Counted live to 00:00 on 18 February 2027, Brussels time. From that moment every light-means-of-transport battery, every EV battery and every industrial battery above 2 kWh placed on the EU market or put into service needs a registered battery passport.
What applies on 18 February 2027.
A passport per battery
An electronic record for each in-scope battery placed on the market or put into service, with the Annex XIII data in four access tiers.
A QR code linking to it
Printed or engraved on the battery, high-contrast and phone-readable, opening the passport through a unique identifier compliant with ISO/IEC 15459.
An entry in the EU registry
The identifier registered in the EU Digital Product Passport Registry, which has been live since 20 July 2026. Customs can check it.
A host that outlives the seller
The record stored by the economic operator or an authorised operator, available after the operator ceases to exist or leaves the Union.
Every battery obligation with a date, and the acts still pending.
